My new goal is to post at least once a week.

I need to do it.  For my own sanity.  And for the sake of letting friends and family know how exciting my life is.


For now, these are my thoughts:


Josh started a new semester and quit his job.  Our new goal (we're making lots of those 'round here) is to have him graduating next April.  Hooray!  His grades will be great because he isn't working and has time to study.
Where will we get money if he's not working, you ask? Oh don't worry.  I've been offered a position as next years 6th grade teacher at APA.  I'm an adult! I'll be getting a salary and everything!


Our other goals???


- budget every month
- organize our room
- read scriptures together every night
- organize the basement for our second set of roommates: Jenn and Iain
- sell our car
- weed the yard
- set up the tramp
- ride our bikes
- save money


And those are just some of them.  I realize not everyone wants to read about our intentions.  But writing them down gets us one step closer to accomplishing them, right?  Then they are concrete.  Not to ignore.

We are alive

Forever.

It's been forever, I know.

But sometimes I just don't know what to post, because our schedule is almost always the same.  And I'm tired. Oh so tired, all the time.

We work, we sleep, we eat.  I play Pocket Potions on my iphone.  Josh does dishes.  We try to get the motivation to move everything from the upstairs into our new room on the main floor.  Life moves slow, and yet time flies by.

Updates:
We are on our second month of budgeting and living Dave Ramsey's plan.  We can feel ourselves getting richer by the minute. ;)
We have a new roommate! Chelsea got lonely waiting for her husband in basic training so she packed up their things and moved into our basement.  Josh looks like he has two wives at church, especially since we all have the last name of Park.  But it's helping.  And I like having a sister (in-law) live here too. Now if only we could somehow get Amy to come....

Let's Get Rich!

My parents gave us a book for Christmas:  The Total Money Makeover by Dave Ramsey.  Our total money makeover begins now.  We are lucky this book is available to us at this age.  Dave refers to "25 year olds" and "27 year olds" often in this book, as people who are in the prime position to become rich using his plan.

Josh is 27.  I will be 25 in 22 days.  We are set to begin our money makeover and be RICH!
(not in a maniacal, worldly sort of way.  More in an organized, spiritually and physically prepared sort of way.)

And Josh and I will be rich someday.  Parents, start thinking of places in France.

Heart Disease

So I'm sitting at my desk today, prepping for something while the class read science.  They are in their Biology section of science right now, and they had to read a bunch about diseases and viruses and stuff.

Mrs. Hicks: "Heart disease is the number one cause of death for women.  Did you know that?  And it can affect everyone.  You could be as skinny and young as Mrs. Park and still get heart disease if you don't eat healthy enough and exercise."

Student: "Skinny??? She's not skinny!!!"  (yelled at the top of his lungs, mind you)

Me: "Excuse me?"

Mrs. Hicks: "What?"

Student: "Uuhhhh..."

Weird... and a bit awkward

Tonight is the night.


Josh and I didn't have work today.  Please bless Martin Luther King for giving us a day off.  We needed the long weekend.  But we started moving our stuff into the parents' unoccupied room.  "Started" being the key word.  We decided to only move the stuff we actually use and need on a daily to weekly basis, and then we will pack up the rest to reside in the garage until further notice.  So far we have clothes, toiletries, pillows and phone chargers.  It's a start.


We will be sleeping in our new bed tonight.  The bed we will have for two years (minus the times we have any visits from the missionaries, because I will not put my parents in a guest bedroom in their own house).


This will be weird for me.  Probably for a while.  

New Years...

This time of year is supposed to be full of motivation and ideas and goals.  Yes.  I have made resolutions for this coming year- they are even written down.  Look at me.  But it is hard for me to be too excited for the times and events coming, when what is happening now is so............. emotionally conflicting (does that sound mature and intelligent?  I was going to type 'unhappy' but I knew that wouldn't be received well.  Get over it).

Last night they were set apart at the Provo MTC to be the Directors of the London Temple Visitors Center and full-time missionaries in the London South Mission for the LDS church.  They will be there for 2 years.  


Saying good-night to them has been hard for the past week.  Saying multiple goodbyes (before going to the MTC, while leaving them at the MTC after the setting apart, and the coming big goodbye on Friday) SUCKS.  


I am not looking forward to Friday morning.  Maybe I'll call in sick to work.  


Yes.  I am excited for them.  Yes.  I think they will do a great job.  Yes.  I do think they need to go. 


But no.  I am not happy about it right now.  Yes.  I will survive.  2 years will 'fly' by.  But no.  Just let me be unhappy about it for a while.  Ok?

Iron Chef Carpenter Family

Tonight was the second annual Carpenter Family Cook-off: Iron Chef Carpenter Family!  The contestants: Kristen versus Janet.  The challenge: one appetizer and one dessert in one hour.  The secret ingredient: Caramel.
