I. Am. Tired.

I drove two silent 7th grade boys and two giggly 7th grade girls to our student council training today. Those poor boys. I just couldn't help but laugh inside at the girls talking about how smoking Taylor Lautner is, how awesome the latest Justin Bieber song is, and what kind of make-up they wanted for Christmas.

This was just the middle of my day.

I spent the morning frantically trying to organize my school stuff, correct papers and journals, get my novels for my reading class (We are starting to read some book about a horse. Every student who has read it before says it's the worst book ever. I am so excited to teach it, especially now that I know how awesome it is). I read The Giving Tree to the sixth graders today in class, which I haven't read in years. I cried. How embarrassing. I may be a bit hormonal, I think.

Then I drove the 7th graders to the training where I had to walk down a runway wearing a neon safety vest and a hardhat, help choreograph a lip sync to the Bieb's hit song, and learn about what I have to do as the council mentor (which- by the way, I still don't actually know what I'm doing. It's like starting this job all over again. I guess it will just be me faking it for a while until I actually get it).

Then I drove through the scary snow storm.

And I'm tired.

Promotion?

I have been asked to be the 7th grade student council teacher mentor at school. I was told they wanted me to do it because I was "cool" and the kids would look up to me. But then they said it was also because the sixth graders (who I'm with most of the time) have band/orchestra at the time of the council meetings, so I wouldn't be missing anything in my classroom. I'm not sure if I should be flattered or not.

But I am a bit nervous. I am a bit confused as to what exactly is expected of me. Training will be interesting on Friday.

I'm famous!

This past Thursday I was driving to my weekly rehearsal, listening to my new favorite talk show on ksl. The Nightside Project. Hilarious. Anyways- I was listening to them talk about some guy who found out he was adopted when he was 21 years old. Over facebook. Awful. So I texted in my opinion and they read it on the air!!! I felt so cool. Yeah- I am famous. No biggie.

Life goals

I was correcting paragraphs from my reading group today. The topic was about what they imagined themselves being in the future. Most wrote about being rich, about being scientists, physical therapists and writers. One particular boy, however, has big ambitions:

"I would want to be a sign spinner. They can flip a sign over and over again. They get tan fast. They get paid alot. Go sign spinners!"

Hilarious. Yes I laughed out loud.

Busy Day?

In all my running around and doing things all day, I tend to not notice things. Today was not one of those days.

As I was frantically reversing out of the driveway to make it to a performance (in which I barely made it in time to run inside and dance), I did notice the congregation of quail cluttering our neighbor's driveway. There were more shuffling quickly over there (in order to get out of my way, I assume) from our yard as well. Interesting, to me. I wonder what they were up to? Some kind of birdy seance or secret meeting to plan the coup to reorganize their government infrastructure? A quail-quilting club? A gossip time to discuss how the yard of the Carpenter household is slowly growing into ruin under the hands of its new housekeepers?

I do hope the various dogs we've been watching have not scared the quail from our backyard. It just wouldn't be the same if they left. Plus, they remind me of mom.

So I guess the busy-ness of our lives doesn't completely overtake the senses. Sometimes things are blogworthy. Wish us luck in the week ahead.

November!!

Our Halloween consisted of two nights of carving pumpkins, one family dinner where costumes were required in order to eat the jello worms and pudding eyeballs, and a night spent in the dark because we didn't have candy to pass out to the cute kiddies.

Next year we will hand out candy, because my heart hurt to hear the kids laughing and screaming on the street and to not answer the door when they knocked. Candy will be given.

It snowed today. And rained. Rain more than snow, but snow, nonetheless.
